I am required to get an SR22 in Florida, what is it?

Like in any other states, you will be required by the state of Florida to get an SR22 for many reasons. An SR22 insurance in Florida shows proof that you have the require minimum liability insurance required by the state. The state of Florida requires that you get the minimum insurance requirement of:

If you got involved in an accident and you do not have car insurance coverage required by the state, your drivers license will be suspended and you will be required t obtain an SR22. Generally, an SR22 insurance will need to be maintained for around 3 years. Please contact Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to get more information.

Once you have been required to obtain SR22 insurance, you will need to keep it, otherwise, you will penalized. Failure to file an SR22 insurance may result in suspension of driving privilege and suspension of license plate.

According to this cute but tired dog, if you’re famous he’ll sell you a cheap SR22 car insurance policy. Unfortunately, you probably aren’t famous, so we’ll have to walk through the steps of buying an SR22 policy from a Florida no fault car insurance company by ourselves. It’s a simple practice which can be completed in a few minutes, but since it sometimes takes a couple of weeks to have the SR22 filed, make sure you get on it as soon as possible so as not to have your driver’s license suspended again.

1. Pick up the phone and dial your Florida no fault car insurance company or agent. Tell them that you’ll have to purchase an SR22 policy in order to get your license reinstated. They can walk you through the process.

2. Get quoted. Once you’ve contacted your Florida no fault car insurance company, they’ll take another look at your risk. This will include a new quote, and it also might involve having the door slammed in your face. Once you are required to file an SR22 form, your no fault Florida car insurance company might not want to insure you any longer, and you’ll have to start looking again.

3. Pick your coverage. SR22 filing is expensive, or at least the risk rating associated with it is, so if I were you I would stick to the minimum coverage, which at the moment is just liability. Once January comes around, you’ll have to call your no fault Florida car insurance company up and ask them to add no fault coverage to it. If you do purchase collision insurance, the prices will be phenomenal.

4. If your car insurance company cancels your policy, you can either try to find a company that insures high risk drivers, or you can join the Florida assigned risk pool, which randomly assigns you to a no fault Florida car insurance company.

5. Pay up and get going. In some cases, you can download your SR22 form or send it online, or the car insurance company will mail it to you so you can take it to the department of motor vehicles. In other cases, the no fault Florida car insurance company will do so itself.
