Although I recommend shopping for your car insurance online and buying direct, there are many people who have to hand the process over to a Florida insurance agent.
There are two types of Florida insurance agent.
- Captive agent.
A captive agent is a Florida insurance agent who is directly linked to a single car insurance company. There is very little difference between buying your car insurance from a captive Florida insurance agent and just buying it through a company, and it would be both cheaper and faster to buy it on your own rather than through a captive Florida insurance agent. This type of Florida insurance agent can only help you with one car insurance company, and thus isn’t ideal for getting quotes and the like.
- Independent agent.
An independent agent is the Florida insurance agent that works for several different car insurance companies. For the busy driver, it might be preferable to get your quote through an independent Florida insurance agent. The independent Florida insurance agent can help you choose which company you want, and can aid you in taking advantage of discounts and other premium lowering deals.

A specialist will do your research for you, and can recommend you companies out of all of the options, because a specialist has no allegiance to a company.
